Delegation from Turkmenistan attends meeting of Foreign Ministers of Germany and Central Asian countries

AKIPRESS.COM - The German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs and the leadership of the Foreign Ministries of Central Asian countries held a meeting in Berlin on February 11, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reported.

The Turkmen side was represented at the meeting by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov.

The main themes of the talks were the development of cooperation in the energy sector, regional partnership matters and others.

Speaking at the plenary session of the Central Asia-Germany format, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan noted the importance of strengthening strategic dialogue between the countries of the region and Germany, as well as expressed gratitude to the German side for the high level of arrangement of the meeting.

It was emphasized that cooperation between the Central Asian states and Germany is consistent and constructive. The need to attain a qualitatively new level of partnership, corresponding to the significant joint potential of the sides, was noted.

The speech focused on regional security issues. The importance of deepening political and diplomatic cooperation in order to maintain stability and predictability in Central Asia and neighboring regions was emphasized.

The Deputy Foreign Minister underlined that cooperation with Germany has significant potential. The priority areas are transport and logistics, energy, industrial production, the chemical industry, mechanical engineering, medicine and pharmaceuticals, the agro-industrial sector, water management, as well as developments in the field of information technology and artificial intelligence. The prospects for establishing joint manufacture, service and educational centers in the countries of the region were highlighted.

In the context of the climate agenda, Turkmenistan highly appraised the role of Germany in promoting environmental initiatives, noting the contribution of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) to the implementation of relevant projects.

The importance of the humanitarian dimension of the partnership, including the development of cultural, educational, scientific and sporting ties, was also emphasized.

The meeting concluded with the adoption of the Berlin Declaration of Ministers, which covers a wide range of areas of multilateral cooperation and is intended to give additional impetus to the development of the Central Asia-Germany format.

Following the plenary session, Deputy Minister Ahmet Gurbanov also took part in a joint meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Germany and Central Asian countries with representatives of the German business community.

The Turkmen side emphasized the many years of positive experience of cooperation with German companies and financial institutions.

Special gratitude was expressed to the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations for its work on developing business ties, including the organization of the Days of Economy of Turkmenistan in Frankfurt am Main in October 2025.

The priority areas include transport and logistics, modernization of railway infrastructure, development of the Turkmenbashy sea port, and participation of German companies in the development of East-West transit corridors and the Middle Route between Asia and Europe.

Promising areas of cooperation include energy, including hydrogen projects and the green transition, the chemical industry, textiles, agriculture, the water sector, information technology and artificial intelligence.

Special attention was paid to cooperation in the financial and banking sector, as well as successful partnership in the field of healthcare.

The Turkmen side expressed its readiness to intensify cooperation with German companies both on a bilateral basis and within the framework of the Central Asia-Germany format.

On February 11, Ahmet Gurbanov took part in a joint meeting with Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

During the meeting, the sides confirmed the steady development of Turkmen-German relations and emphasized the importance of further strengthening cooperation within the framework of the Central Asia-Germany format, as well as interaction on international platforms, primarily within the framework of the United Nations and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

Interest was expressed in expanding partnership in the areas of transport, energy, green transformation, education and healthcare.

The sides confirmed their readiness to further expand mutually beneficial partnership at the end of the meeting.
