AKIPRESS.COM - The U.S. Department of the Treasury has announced that future paper currency will soon feature the signature of President Donald Trump alongside that of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
This move marks the first time in American history that a sitting president’s signature will appear on legal tender, replacing the traditional signature of the Treasurer of the United States, which has been a staple of banknotes for 165 years. Secretary Bessent stated that these new bills are issued to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary this year, symbolizing a period of unprecedented economic growth and long-term dollar dominance under the current administration.
U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach described the inclusion of the president's signature as a well-deserved tribute to the architect of a new American economic renaissance.
Reuters reports that the first $100 bills bearing the dual signatures of Trump and Bessent are scheduled for printing in June. In addition to paper currency, the Commission of Fine Arts—recently reorganized by the administration—has approved the design for a large commemorative gold coin depicting the president at a desk with clenched fists. The commission is also currently evaluating a proposal for a new $1 coin featuring the president’s likeness as part of the broader 250th-anniversary celebrations.
