Environmental challenges deeply interconnected and require cross-sectoral solutions: OTS Secretary General

AKIPRESS.COM - Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliev delivered a keynote speech on 22 April 2026 at a high-level panel titled “Integrated action on climate change, land restoration and biodiversity conservation for food security and sustainability (Strengthening synergies among the Rio Conventions)”, organized by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of the Republic of Türkiye and the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOFS) and held within the margins of the Regional Ecological Summit.

The OTS Secretary General emphasized the urgent need for integrated action across climate, land, and biodiversity sectors. He highlighted that addressing these challenges in isolation is no longer effective and called for strengthened regional cooperation to build a resilient future for the Turkic World.

Secretary General Omuraliev emphasized that today’s environmental challenges are deeply interconnected and require integrated, cross-sectoral solutions. Addressing climate, land, and biodiversity in isolation is no longer sufficient.

The OTS Green Vision and efforts to advance coordinated regional policies that strengthen resilience, sustainability, and food security across the Turkic World were highlighted.

The OTS Secretary General called for enhanced cooperation among regional and international partners, and stronger alignment with global COP processes.

The side event aims to advance Rio Conventions synergies by promoting integrated policies that link climate action, land restoration, and biodiversity conservation to strengthen regional food security and align with upcoming global COP agendas.
