Over 1,000 university students today partook in the flash mob on Ala-Too square in Bishkek in protest against abduction of women for forced marriage.
The flash mob was held following the recent murder of 19-year-old Burulai, who was abducted for forced marriage and then stabbed to death by abductor in a police station, where the two were brought for questioning.
The university students appealed to young people of Kyrgyzstan and their parents to stop the practice of abduction of women to coerce them into marriage.
Similar flash mobs will be held in all regions of Kyrgyzstan to stop disgraceful practice of abduction of women and forced marriages, organizers say.
The event under slogan “We, youth, are against abduction of women and forced marriages” was organized by Enactus Kyrgyzstan with support of the Ministry of Education, State Agency for Youth, Physical Education and Sport.
