Kim Jong-un and Vladimir Putin meet face to face at Russia summit
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has made his first trip to Russia to meet president Vladimir Putin. The Russian president has offered to help to break the deadlock in talks over North Korea’s nuclear weapons programme. The summit is the first ever between Putin and Kim and may provide Pyongyang with an opportunity to seek support from Russia and possible relief from the sanctions hurting its economy. For the Kremlin, the summit is a chance to show it is a global diplomatic player.
