Japan's Abe likely to attend ASEM Summit in Mongolia

AKIPRESS.COM - Abe Japan Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is planning to attend the Asia-Europe Meeting Summit in the Mongolian capital of Ulaanbaatar on July 15 and 16, Nikkei Asian Review reported referring to government sources.

The summit will provide an opportunity for Abe to enhance cooperation with other leaders as they tackle potential threats to global economic stability in the wake of Britain's vote to leave the European Union.

According to the sources, Abe will attend the Summit regardless of the outcome of Japan's House of Councillors election on July 10.

The Japanese government has described Mongolia as an indispensible partner that shares the values of freedom and democracy with Japan.

Abe is expected to seek deeper cooperation with Mongolian President Tsakhia Elbegdorj in their eighth round of bilateral talks.

According to the sources, he is also planning to meet Mongolian People's Party leader Miegombo Enkhbold, tipped to become the country's next prime minister after the main opposition party scored a decisive victory in Thursday's general election.
